Sometimes, rather than linking to a document, an author may want to embed it directly into a primary HTML document. Embedding allows documents of different types to be inserted into your web page. Embedded items are used to allow viewers to either download or access files from your web page.
The Embed Item dialog is used to provide links to non-standard files. For example, some browsers can display word files. The embed tag could then be used to provide a link to a word file, the size parameters would be used to define the size of the window in the browser that displays the word document. In particular Netscape makes use of the embed tag to embed audio and video controls within a web page.
On the Insert menu, click on Embedded Item. This brings up the Embed Item dialog.
Using the Embedded Item
drop-down list, select the item that you wish to embed into your
document. You can click on
to browse for the location of the file.
Using the width field, enter the width that you wish to be displayed for the embedded item. The value may be either an integer (interpreted as a number of pixels) or a percentage of the horizontal space. For example, the value 50% means half the available space while 50 means 50 pixels.
Using the height field, enter the height that you wish to be displayed for the embedded item. The value may be either an integer (interpreted as a number of pixels) or a percentage of the vertical space. For example, the value 50% means half the available space while 50 means 50 pixels.
Click OK.
